The art of framing is not always about picking
the best looking frame and matting combination. Sometimes its
about selecting the most appropriate course of action to preserve
the materials and the original integrity of a work of art.
Our client brought to us an original painting by one of the Florida
Highwaymen. The artwork was in good shape, still in the original
frame from the artist circa 1960, but the other materials needed
some preservation and an overall more formal presentation.

The decision was made to float the original frame
inside a field of linen and use non-destructive techniques to
mount the frame inside the hand wrapped linen “liner”.
Wood was milled to the appropriate shape, sealed and primed, then
seamlessly wrapped in a soft off-white linen. This was then framed
in a 22kt engraved gold frame. We then attached a nameplate to
appropriately identify the artist and history of the painting.
