Children's Services Council
Photo Wall
The Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County asked us to help them with a project for their lobby. They wanted to show the faces of some of the children they help to everyone who walks into the building. We printed large-scale black and white photographs of the children on canvas and mounted them to custom built wood boxes. We painted the edges of each box black to help set contrast between the images. The boxes were installed in a two-story wall that is fully one story above the reception desk! The finished project is fantastic to look at and can be seen from outside the building's glass entry way and facade.

We first designed a scale mockup of the arrangement of the photos that were chosen for the wall. Each one was adjusted and cropped to fit together perfectly in the space designated for the project. Once the final size of each photo was determined they were printed onto high-grade canvas. The canvas was finished with a protective coating then mounted them to custom-made wood boxes to prevent warping of the canvas.
On site, three stories in the air, the installation team sets the horizontal "z" bar with a laser level to ensure a perfect line.
Each box was then hung on the "z" bar for perfect alignment and screwed into the wall for safety.
The installation continues working it’s way down the wall.
The lift we used for the installation was an adventure in itself! Since the reception desk was directly below the space where we would be working (and could not be moved), a special lift had to be rented. The lift pivoted at five joints that were controlled separately.
